- Fishing Season
-
- Chinook Salmon (King Salmon) - May 1st through October with the peak runs being the summer runs
from mid-June through early September, and the fall runs from late September to mid
October. Bar fishing, pulling plugs and hanging spoons are the preferred methods to
success with these most powerful salmon that reach weights exceeding 60 pounds.
- Coho Salmon (Silver Salmon) - late September through to mid - November. Fly fishing, spin fishing,
float fishing are all effective methods to catch these highly sought after sportfish.
- Chum Salmon (Dog Salmon) - late September through mid November. All methods work for these
aggressive fish. We think these fish are the buffalo of salmon!
- Pink Salmon (Humpies) - early September to mid October on odd numbered years. Our next run
will be 2007. Approximately 20 - 30 million pink salmon return to the system and they
are very susceptible to fly fishing and jigs. A fishery for all anglers!
- Fishing Description
-
Chinook Salmon
Also known as King Salmon they are the largest of the five Pacific ocean salmon. Chinooks are known for
their outstanding strength and stamina, as well as their terrific taste. There are two major Salmon
fishing runs of Chinook that are targeted; the Fraser River summer run and the fall run on the
Harrison River. The Harrison river is a large tributary to the Fraser river with its confluence near
Chilliwack British Columbia.
Fraser river Chinook Salmon will range in size from 10 to 40 pounds and are in mint condition being only
a few days from the ocean. The fall run Harrison fish, a white flesh variety, are generally larger and
can reach weights of 60 pounds or more! The limit for Chinook salmon fishing is one adult fish per day,
a possession limit of two.
Coho Salmon
Also known as Silver Salmon the Coho is a smaller salmon ranging in size from 4 to 12 pounds. Coho Salmon
are a favorite fish of all anglers on the Fraser. Many of the area's tributaries have Coho returns,
however we choose to concentrate our efforts on the Fraser and the Harrison river.
The limit for Coho vary from two to four HATCHERY (adipose fin-clipped) fish per day, double that for
possession.
Sockeye Salmon
Thank goodness these fish average only 5 - 6 pounds or we'd never land them. The action when the
sockeye salmon are in is incredibly exciting. Fishing for these silvery speedsters that arrive in June
and migrate up the Fraser in huge numbers right through mid-September. These fish provide a unique
angling opportunity for all anglers whether a beginner or a pro. They can also be caught with fly
fishing tackle. This fishery is regulated by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and can be opened or closed
on short notice. The Sockeye Salmon fishery is typically opened on August 1st, and can remain open for
the entire month. The limit for sockeye is two fish per day, four in your possession. These fish are
highly sought after for their excellent taste.
Chum Salmon
Ranging in size from 8 to 20 pounds, the tenacious chum salmon or dog salmon as they are commonly called,
are the "buffaloes" of the river. The chum will color up when it enters the freshwater in mid to late
September, but that does not deter it from attacking anything in its path! A very strong salmon, most
anglers will agree that the chum is hard on tackle and provides a worthy challenge whether taken on drift,
spinning and fly tackle. The chum is easily identified by the purplish vertical bars on its sides and
on the bucks, and by rather large teeth — hence the nickname dog salmon.
Occurring in good numbers, chum salmon can be found almost anywhere in the lower Fraser and its
tributaries. The limit for chum salmon is two fish per day, four in your possession.
Pink Salmon
Pink salmon are found in the lower Fraser and its tributaries on every odd numbered year
(2005,2007, etc.). Commonly called humpies because of the conspicuous hump on the male's backs, pink
salmon can be taken on every type of tackle and will bite readily. This makes fishing for pinks fun
for everyone including the younger anglers. The next run will begin in late August and continue into
mid-October 20057. The limit for pink salmon is four fish per day, eight in your possession.
We offer 17 years of experience guiding anglers in the Fraser valley for 5 species of
pacific salmon, steelhead and the notorious Fraser river giant, the white sturgeon.
The area is a unique valley with warm summers and mild winters allowing us to fish
12 months of the year. We use jetboats to travel the river to get to the various
fishing spots, and since we're on the river daily, we know what areas are fishing well
at any given time. The boats are covered to keep you cool in the summer, and are
fully enclosed during damp weather. All boats are new, well maintained, safe and are
operated by experienced guides. Our guides are truly interested not only in fishing,
but in guiding anglers to help them realize the dreams of their fishing adventures.
Our guiding operation maintains a strict code of angling in an ethical manner. These
are some aspects that make our business stand out from others.
There are peak seasons for each species, and plenty of opportunities for combination
trips, including fishing for various species in one day! Mixed angling methods and
gear types for a variety of fish species is a highlight of the attraction to the
Fraser river fishing experience. There really is something for everyone, no matter
the method preferred or the level of experience of the angler.
Another attractive benefit to the Fraser fishing experience is the opportunity to do
many other activities in the area while you are angling. These activities include
taking in the numerous sights involving the unique natural attractions in the area
as well as whitewater rafting, whale watching, hiking, and golfing.
The Fraser river fishing experience is a unique adventure. The fact that there are
so many angling opportunities coupled with other non fishing activities make it an
excellent holiday for everyone from the serious hardcore angler to the family oriented
vacation.
Fishing the Fraser River and the Harrison River for Salmon is a great alternative to
Alaska fishing.
