- Fishing Description
-
The British Columbia steelhead is an ocean going version of the rainbow trout. This means they hatch in
the river where they will live for 1 year and then swim out to the ocean as smolts. These smolts will
be about 6 inches long. They will live in the ocean for 2 to 3 years where they will mature and
subsequently return to spawn as adults weighing anywhere from 6 to 20 pounds. The fighting reputation
of steelhead is legendary as they are aggressive fish and provide spectacular action. The majority of
steelhead fishing is done by drift fishing roe, wool-ties or pink worms, but flyfishing is also a
great way to catch steelhead.
This type of fishing is not recommended for inexperienced anglers as the conditions require good casting
skills and some patience. In addition, these fish begin to show up before Christmas and that means cool
temperatures. While we are lucky here to see rain more often than snow, but we do get lower temperatures
and snow which can make winter fishing challenging. However, if you are looking for a challenge and
something different, steelhead fishing can be addictive. It matters not how many fish you have caught
in your life, there is something about landing, and even losing, a steelhead that will make your hands
shake.
Steelhead return to several rivers in the area and can be fished for until the end of April. The limit
for steelhead is one HATCHERY (adipose fin-clipped) fish per day, two in your possession to a maximum
of ten fish per year. All WILD steelhead must be released. A steelhead stamp is necessary to fish for
steelhead, regardless of whether you intend to retain a fish or not.
We offer 17 years of experience guiding anglers in the Fraser valley for 5 species of
pacific salmon, steelhead and the notorious Fraser river giant, the white sturgeon.
The area is a unique valley with warm summers and mild winters allowing us to fish
12 months of the year. We use jetboats to travel the river to get to the various
fishing spots, and since we're on the river daily, we know what areas are fishing well
at any given time. The boats are covered to keep you cool in the summer, and are
fully enclosed during damp weather. All boats are new, well maintained, safe and are
operated by experienced guides. Our guides are truly interested not only in fishing,
but in guiding anglers to help them realize the dreams of their fishing adventures.
Our guiding operation maintains a strict code of angling in an ethical manner. These
are some aspects that make our business stand out from others.
There are peak seasons for each species, and plenty of opportunities for combination
trips, including fishing for various species in one day! Mixed angling methods and
gear types for a variety of fish species is a highlight of the attraction to the
Fraser river fishing experience. There really is something for everyone, no matter
the method preferred or the level of experience of the angler.
Another attractive benefit to the Fraser fishing experience is the opportunity to do
many other activities in the area while you are angling. These activities include
taking in the numerous sights involving the unique natural attractions in the area
as well as whitewater rafting, whale watching, hiking, and golfing.
The Fraser river fishing experience is a unique adventure. The fact that there are
so many angling opportunities coupled with other non fishing activities make it an
excellent holiday for everyone from the serious hardcore angler to the family oriented
vacation.
