Currently (2001), the following major safari destinations are closed to hunting: Angola, Kenya, Sudan, Uganda, the former Zaire, and Zambia. Of this group, Uganda is rumored to be open this year (for the first time since Idi Amin) on a test basis, and Zambia is expected to re-open within the next year. Species that are indigenous solely to the preceding countries (except for Zambia) are included in the list of species not currently huntable. Species that are not currently huntable in Africa due to hunting being closed where they live or due to the species being endangered and either not on license or not importable into the United States are: Black Rhino, Scimitar-Horned Oryx, Addax, Giant Sable Antelope, Shimba Sable Antelope, Sudan Roan, Angolan Gemsbok, Angolan Defassa Waterbuck, Nile Lechwe, White-Eared Kob, Uganda Kob, Sudan Bohor Reedbuck, Western Mountain Reedbuck, Swayne Hartebeest, Tora Hartebeest, Hunter Antelope, Sudan Soemmerring Gazelle, Dama Gazelle, Heuglin Gazelle, Mongalla Gazelle, Slender-Horned Gazelle, Eritrean Gazelle, Flabby-Nosed Gazelle, Atlas Gazelle, Dorcas Gazelle (all six sub-species), Bright Gazelle, Peters Gazelle, Red-Fronted Gazelle, Angolan Springbok, Dibatag, Haggard Oribi, Beira, Salt Dik-Dik, Phillips Dik-Dik, Swayne Dik-Dik, Lawrance Dik-Dik, Silver Dik-Dik, Angolan Bush Duiker; Abbott Duiker, Ruwenzori Red Duiker, Ader Duiker, Jentink Duiker, Walia (aka Abyssinian Ibex), Nubian Ibex, Brown Hyena, Striped Hyena, Beira, Haggard Oribi, and Kenya Bongo.
