Description: The stone sheep has slightly heavier horns than the Dall sheep. It is larger and chunkier than the Dall sheep and has a wider skull. Its horns can vary in size and shape but characteristically curve back over its head and around its ear. The color of stone sheep can vary from a charcoal-gray merging on black to a light-gray or gray-brown. It is almost white in the north part of its range. Occasionally the head and neck are lighter in color than the body. Its muzzle, belly, backs of legs and rump are white and its tail is black.

Size: Wt. 180-220 lb (80-100 kg); Shoulder Ht. 40" (102 cm).

Range: Northern British Columbia and southern Yukon; primarily August-September.

Natural History: The stone sheep is seen in alpine meadows, grasslands above the timberline and below the snowline in steep rugged cliff and rock outcropping areas. It usually feeds in meadows.
