- Hunt Description
-
The La Pampa is one of the two best areas in Argentina for Red Stag (also called Red Deer) and
Eurasian Wild Boar hunting. The La Pampa is composed mainly of the Calden tree, native only to
this area of Argentina.
The "Roar" (rutting season) begins during the early days of March and continues until the end of April
— depending of course on the exact area, climate, etc.
Like his northern cousin the Elk (Wapiti), the Red Stag follows the cows trying to assemble as large
a harem as possible. Each day during the last hours of daylight is when the Red Stag begin to roar.
The sound is unforgettable, similar some say to the sound of a lion. During the night is when the roar
reaches its greatest intensity.
The Pampas is a dry climate, although there is always a chance of rain during this time of year.
The hunt is conducted in two different ways; from a blind waiting for the stag — and stalking in
the bush where normally you will encounter the Stag at a very close range, and many times you'll have
to do a snap shot. Eurasian Wild Boar are hunted either with dogs or from a blind. This is a much
different then hunting in Patagonia where you will first see the Red Stag at a distance of 1,000 yards
or more.
Five days is enough to obtain a good Stag in the La Pampa, and of course you can also take a Eurasian
Wild Boar. For a good chance at a Cougar (Mountain Lion) you need two o three days more.
For the Stag the season runs from March 15 to May 15. The Eurasian Wild Boar can be hunted all year,
and Cougar can be hunted from January 1 to July 31. We have exclusive rights to the areas we hunt so
you can count on a great and unforgettable adventure.
