Book your Namibia Hunting Safari with us
Namibia offers some of the most affordable hunting safaris in Africa and we have the best of
them, including the only hunt that moves with the game in an area of over 9 million acres -
our tented camp fly-in plains game and big five hunting safari.
All of the Big Five (Elephant, Lion, Rhino, Cape Buffalo, Leopard) can be found in Namibia along
with Cheetah, Giraffe, Zebra and 20 species of Antelope as well as other game animals. Namibia
is a large, mainly arid, sparsely populated country on Africa's south-west coast, which has
enjoyed stability since achieving Independence in 1990.
In Namibia there are four levels of license for hunting professionals:
-
Hunting Guides - who may only hunt on their own farm,
which must be registered as a hunting farm.
-
Master Hunting Guides - who may only hunt on their own farm,
which must be registered as a hunting farm, plus two additional registered hunting farms.
-
Professional Hunters - who may conduct hunts on all farms,
provided they have written permission from the owner of the property, registered hunting
farm or not, as well as government owned hunting areas.
-
Professional Hunters with Big Game License -Required to conduct hunts
with clients for elephant, rhino, cape buffalo and lion.
All of our hunting professionals are Professional Hunters or Professional Hunters with
Big Game Licenses. This is important to you because each level of licensing requires
a greater degree of exhibited skill, additional years of experience, higher number of
successful hunts, and rigorous testing. Which means a better hunting experience for you.
English is the official language of Namibia. Christianity is the predominant (90%) religion.
- Clothing
-
Light, cotton clothing in olive green or sand colors is recommended for hunting.
Well-fitting boots, warm pyjamas and sweater/parkas for cool nights and mornings.
Camouflaged clothing is permitted only in the hunting field in Namibia. We
suggest you just leave it at home.
- Vaccinations
-
There are no mandatory vaccinations for persons traveling from North America or Europe.
However you should take the usual precautions. Ask your doctor if you should renew
your vaccinations against diphtheria, polio, and tetanus. You might also ask if you need
to take precautions against Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B. There is no vaccination
for malaria, but there are malaria prophylaxis available.
- Malaria
-
For the hunter Malaria is not generally a concern as almost the entire hunting season is when
Malaria is not transmitted, which is usually from January to April. We usually hunt from
mid-April thru September.
Malaria remains one of the most feared illnesses world-wide. In Namibia this applies primarily
to the local population in the northern parts of the country, as protection becomes too
expensive for them over the long term. You, however, can protect yourself most adequately.
Please note that the following information is not intended to replace an individual consultation
with a doctor or pharmacist!
Malaria is transmitted via the bite of a mosquito. This means that if there are no mosquitoes
in the area, then there is no malaria either. And of course just because there are mosquitoes
doesn't mean there malaria. If you are concerned a good precaution is to use a good mosquito
repellant. Since Namibia does not have much stagnant water the risk of contracting malaria is
minimal in most parts of the country, and limited to a specific time of the year - January
thru April.
- Snakes
-
Most hunters never see a snake during their stay in Namibia.
The probability of encountering a poisonous snake is very small since all, except
the puffadder, quickly disappear as soon as they sense the slightest movement.
So when walking in the bush you should always wear sturdy shoes, preferably covering
the ankle. If you are concerned and want more protection purchase a pair of snake
proof boots from someplace like Cabela's before leaving for your Namibia hunting
safari. And watch your step and listen to sounds — snakes usually warn you before
they attack.
If in a tented camp, zip your tent completely and shake out your shoes before
putting them on.
Hunting in Namibia generally takes place in either the Acacia dotted savannas, or
the Mopane covered scrub lands - both beautiful in their own right. With an abundance
of game in Namibia your hunting safari will be a trip you will cherish the rest of your life.
Namibia shares borders with Angola to the north, Botswana to the east, South Africa to the
south and, in the Caprivi Strip, a narrow panhandle of Namibian territory jutting from the
northeast corner of the country, with Zambia and Zimbabwe.
