All my life I've been around loud noises — from shooting and hunting as a kid, to a tour in the military, to using air tools as an auto mechanic. All without any form of hearing protection. As a result, even though I hear well, there is a constant hissing sound inside my head.

So now, to protect the hearing I still have, I always wear some type of hearing protection when I shoot, no matter if I'm at the shooting range or out on a hunt.

When I'm in the bush it is usually some type of disposable ear plug, but of course they deaden all sounds. So I have to admit I don't always put them in until time to shoot, if I have enough time. Not real smart behavior on my part.

But when Peltor sent me their TacticalPro Electronic Headset to try out they gave me an alternative for the shooting range and for those enclosed deer stands I find myself in every year.

Now I've used electronic headsets before, but none as full featured as Peltor's. It is extremely durable and easy to use, even with gloves on. The batteries it uses are standard AA's. And unlike other electronic headsets, the Peltor TacticalPro has an audio jack so it can be connected to an optional radio to allow communications, a great feature for an outfitter trying to keep track of his clients on semi-guided hunts.
