Starlight 38 inch Shotgun/Tactical Gun Case
I've been using the Double Rifle Case from Starlight for a couple of years now. I have successful transported
my hunting rifle, shooting sticks, ammunition, cleaning rod and cleaning kit all within the case - undamaged -
to Africa, Argentina, Canada and throughout the United States.
So when Starlight shipped me their 38" Shotgun/Tactical Gun Case to test, I pretty much knew what to expect. The
first thing I noticed was how much easier the latches are to use on this new case. The older model latches
will bust your knuckles if you try and use your hands to open them, so I've always used one of the locks
I secure the case with as a pry bar. But these new latches open with ease.
Just as with my earlier case, inside is a foam cutting knife and a complete set of instructions on how to
trace the rifle or shotgun and cut the foam to secure and protect. Nothing else needed (except 4 keyed alike locks).
The shipping box the case came in was labeled "Assault Rifle" although the accompanying literature calls
it a Shotgun/Tactical Case. I was able to fit the only Assault Rifle I own, an old school Mini 14, into
the case (barely).
But I'm much more likely to use this case to transport my 1886 Winchester 45-70 Lever Action takedown when
I head to Africa on my Cape Buffalo hunt.
The case shipped to me was OD Green in color, but Black, Brown and Desert Tan are options, as are a set of
wheels which I highly advise getting. And an optional high density foam is available, and so are foam replacement
inserts (for that new rifle or shotgun).
Starlight Case's are top quality as evidenced by the U.S. military's use of them. But even more importantly
they stand up to the abuse given by airline baggage handlers. I highly recommend them.
