Leupold's Innovative VX-L™ Riflescopes Offer Benefits of Large Objective and Low Mounting to Hunters

Benefits to Hunters from Leupold's Innovative VX-L Riflescopes Large Objective and Low Mounting

Leupold's® new VX-L™ gives hunters an option they've never had: a clear, bright sight picture in low light, delivered by a large objective riflescope that mounts low on popular hunting rifles to allow a natural cheek weld on the stock for quick, accurate aiming.

The 50mm objective VX-L sits as low as a typical 36mm riflescope, yet delivers almost 50 percent more Total Light Throughput™ (TLT - the total amount of light that passes through an optical system). The 56mm VX-L mounts as low as a typical 40mm scope, and lower than standard 42mm and 44mm models, while delivering nearly 100 percent more TLT.

A concave crescent in the bottom of VX-L's objective lens and bell accommodates low mounting by allowing the scope to almost "wrap around" the barrel of many rifles. However, the sight picture remains perfectly circular with crisp, edge-to-edge sharpness across the entire visual field.

VX-L riflescopes are available in 3.5-10x50mm, 4.5-14x50mm and 3.5-10x56mm models with one-inch maintubes; and 4.5-14x56mm Long Range and 6.5-20x56mm Long Range models with 30mm maintubes. All have a matte black finish. The 6.5-20x56mm Long Range model is also available in an Extreme Varmint version, which sports red anodized spattering on the exterior surfaces for a custom look.

"The truly unique design of our new VX-L is evident at first glance and offers the benefits of both maximum light and minimum height," said Mike Slack, Leupold's marketing communications manager. "Large objective riflescopes are optically great when the light is low, yet often require high mounting, forcing the shooter to lift his or her head off the stock to attain a proper sight picture. With the VX-L's low mounting height, a shooter can maintain firm contact between cheek and the stock comb, making for easier and more accurate aiming. The low mount also gives the rifle better balance. To sum it up, a hunter using a VX-L can stay afield as long as there is 'legal' daylight, get a clear look at the target and employ a natural, proper shooting position that is conducive to accuracy."

Other key features that set VX-L apart from all other riflescopes include:

  • Leupold's Index Matched Lens System™ with new blackened lens edges for maximum light transmission, clarity and contrast. Leupold also applies its DiamondCoat™ lens coatings to each VX-L for additional abrasion resistance and to further enhance light transmission.
  • All models except the 6.5-20x56mm Long Range are available with Leupold's Boone & Crockett™ Big Game reticle. The 4.5-14x50mm, 4.5-14x56mm Long Range and 6.5-20x56mm Long Range offer Leupold's Varmint Hunter's reticle as an option. Other reticle options: 3.5-10x50mm, 4.5-14x50mm and 4.5-14x56mm Long Range models - Duplex® reticle; 3.5-10x56mm model - Duplex and German #4 reticles; 6.5-20x56mm Long Range model - Fine Duplex and Target Dot reticles.
  • Leupold's new Second Generation waterproofing which utilizes an exclusive argon/krypton gas blend to keep the scope fog proof as well as waterproof. This method surpasses the industry standard of nitrogen waterproofing, which Leupold pioneered in 1947.
  • New dual-spring titanium nitride coated stainless steel adjustment system, designed for smooth, precise operation of the internal moving parts while providing exceptional strength and durability. The adjustments are backed by Leupold's most rugged and durable erector system. This dual-spring system is designed to exert up to 30 percent more holding force on the erector than standard erector systems. As a result, the internal workings of VX-L are capable of withstanding the heaviest recoil and hard use, from hunting season to hunting season.

All 3.5-10x and 4.5-14x magnification VX-L riflescopes feature 1/4-MOA click adjustments with resettable pointer dials for windage and elevation. The audible, tactile clicks allow precise finger-adjustments. Also finger-adjustable, the 6.5-20x56mm Long Range model has 1/10-MOA target adjustments with resettable dials.

Other key features:

  • Lightweight one-piece maintubes milled from single blocks of 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum alloy. The one-piece design enhances strength and durability.
  • Lockable, extreme fast-focus eyepiece. Allows extra-fast focusing. After the reticle focus is set, the eyepiece can be securely locked so there are no surprises when the scope is brought to the eye.
  • Side focus parallax adjustment dial is available on the 4.5-14x56mm Long Range and 6.5-20x56mm Long Range Extreme Varmint models. This allows the user to quickly and easily focus from any shooting position, and make precise adjustments from 25 yards (or less) to infinity.
  • Tactile power indicator with range-estimating feature on the power selector ring. Special graphite O-rings and an infinite power band help ensure smooth operation. The infinite power band selector allows the shooter to set magnification exactly where desired. (There is no pre-set magnification that clicks into place.)
  • Riflescope weight: 16.2 ounces (460 grams). Riflescope length: 12.31 inches (30.8 centimeters).

For additional protection of the riflescope, each VX-L comes with a custom-fit neoprene cover.
