Russell Moccasin Announces Scent Control Bowhunter Boots

Long known for its comfortable hand made leather hunting boots and casual footwear, the 106-year-old Russell Moccasin Company recently rolled out an exclusive new Scent Control Bowhunter TM boot that promises to grab the attention of serious archery hunters across North America, probably the world.

Russell says the new boot was designed specifically for serious big game archery hunters... combining "Russell comfortable" construction with the best that modern science can provide.

Russell President, Ralph Fabricius, said, "The bow hunters have been after us for years to build a boot with a rubber bottom because that is what they believed would control scent. We researched scent control technology thoroughly and developed a Total Scent Control System, based on an all leather boot".

Russell's exclusive Total Scent Control System was researched, tested and proven under hundreds of nature's best noses during the fall and winter of 2003 in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Iowa, Illinois and Canada.

"One of our contacts in the scent control industry told us that rubber boots actually give off gaseous odors for up to four years, which defeats the purpose of a rubber boot," said Fabricius. "Our Pro-Staff, with the help of several experts in the scent control industry developed the comprehensive Total Scent Control System that proved to work extremely well during the 2003 hunting season."

"A custom fitted, moccasin-style leather boot is inherently more comfortable than a one size fits all molded rubber boot", says Fabricius, "so that is where we started."

The new Russell Scent Control Bowhunter TM is a 9-inch tall triple vamp boot with a hand molded wrap around sole, fashioned from high quality green waterproofed WeatherTuff TM leather. The boot is totally lined inside with the highly effective activated carbon Scent-Lok¨ material. The boot is equipped with a cushion collar for a positive leg seal, back pull loop, non glare lacing studs, a thin Vibram Multi-Purpose sole, (flat bottom wedge), that provides a superior feel of the ground, helping you avoid making noise while stalking.

A second dynamic in Russell's Total Scent Control System is employing X Scent TM socks, (Silver Fiber Technology TM, powered by X-STATIC TM). X Scent socks feature silver fibers permanently bonded to the sock fibers. Silver ions are passed from the silver fibers into the odor causing bacteria which literally shuts down the cells' respiratory system and their ability to reproduce. X Scent's silver fiber technology is a superb antimicrobial, (toxic to odor-emitting bacteria cells), and has been proven by the U.S. Military, the medical field plus in numerous university test programs. X Scent sock technology eliminates 99.9% of odor causing bacteria...meaning your feet will be virtually odor free. X Scent socks can be washed repeatedly without loss of effectiveness. A pair of X Scent socks will be included with each pair of the new boots.

Another key element to Russell's Total Scent Control System is the waterproofing/leather dressing procedure developed by the Russell Pro-Staff and Marv Obenauf, owner of Obenauf's Heavy Duty Leather Preservative TM. Obenauf's LP is an odorless all natural product that emits no alarming smell. Its unique suspension formula lasts longer and continually, (gradually), releases natural oils into the leather. Obenauf's is a blend of natural oils with Propolis, which is tree resins gathered by honey bees to weatherproof their hives. It contains no petroleum or silicone, both of which are unnatural odors. Obenauf's is made from natural products so it smells like the outdoors. Complete leather dressing procedures and a container of Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP will be included with each pair of Scent Control Bowhunters.

The Russell Pro-Staff also employed several products from Wildlife Research Center¨, including showering prior to hunting in anti-bacterial Scent Killer Liquid Soap, spraying boots and outer clothing prior to entering the hunting area with Scent Killer spray and washing their other clothing in Scent Killer Clothing Wash. The team also wore activated carbon Scent-Lok outer garments, hoods and gloves.

Russell Pro-Staff member, Richard Sanders, reported, "I had more deer within bow range this fall than I have ever seen before and the only thing I did different this fall was that I was wearing the new Scent Control Bowhunter boots in combination with the Scent-Lok clothing I have worn and the Scent Killer products that I have used for the past six seasons. The boots were the final key to total scent control and beating the White Tail's nose."

Russell will begin taking orders for the new Scent Control Bowhunters in early 2004. They will be available insulated or uninsulated, (200, 400 or 600 grams of Thinsulate TM). Average pair weighs only 3 lbs. Pricing begins at $315.
