Weatherby Mark XXII Combines Accurate Shooting With Distinctive Weatherby Styling and Craftsmanship |
New Mark XXII® Combines Accurate Shooting With Distinctive Weatherby Styling and CraftsmanshipWeatherby's new Mark XXII® offers an exceptionally accurate rimfire rifle for target shooters and small-game hunters who appreciate distinctive Weatherby styling and craftsmanship. ![]() Available in .22 LR or .17 HMR, the Mark XXII boasts Weatherby features such as the legendary Monte Carlo stock design, along with certified accuracy demonstrated by a factory-shot target that comes with each rifle. Weatherby is partnering with Anschutz to manufacture the Mark XXII. "For many of us, the .22 was our introduction into the shooting sports, and as we grow older and more experienced, we often come full circle and want a quality rimfire rifle for the range or trips afield," said Brad Ruddell, Weatherby's vice president of sales and marketing. "This is why we have introduced the Mark XXII and made it a stellar example of Weatherby style and performance. In collaboration with Anschutz, which has a long tradition of competitive shooting dominance in the rimfire category, we have designed and produced a rifle that not only performs superbly, but features exceptional wood quality, wood-to-metal fit, near-custom embellishments and close attention to detail, in keeping with the Weatherby tradition." The raised-comb Monte Carlo stock is one of the most recognizable and copied stock designs in history. It features a raised cheekpiece, maplewood spacers, and rosewood forend and grip cap. Made from the same hand-selected walnut wood grade as the popular Vanguard® Deluxe, the stock sports a high-gloss finish. Precision-cut, fineline diamond point checkering at 18 LPI gives the stock a custom look and helps provide a sure grip in various conditions. The stock forearm has a predetermined bedding point to help maintain consistent, repeatable accuracy. A rubber rifle pad is designed to promote firm shoulder contact with the rifle. The key to the Mark XXII's exceptional accuracy is an 8-groove, target-grade, button-rifled barrel with target crown, built to exacting Olympic competition specifications. A fully-adjustable single-stage trigger allows for precise adjustment of sear engagement and let-off weight from 2 to 4.4 pounds (factory set at 2.5 pounds). The result is a clean, crisp trigger that breaks precisely-another key component of superior accuracy. (Sear engagement adjustments must be performed by a Weatherby Service Center or qualified gunsmith.) The machined steel alloy triggerguard and floorplate sport the famous Weatherby "Flying W" engraved in gold. The Mark XXII's bolt design features a special cam cocking mechanism with target-type bolt handle. Precision CNC machining helps assure smooth, non-binding action, cycle after cycle. The bolt can be easily removed and breaks down into three pieces for ease of cleaning and oiling. The bolt face surrounds the cartridge head for complete support, while the cartridge guide and claw extractor work to assure positive cartridge feeding and extraction. Two scope mounting options are standard: an 11mm dovetail rail is machined into the top of the receiver, and the rifle is also drilled and tapped for ring and base scope mounts. A five-shot magazine comes standard with the .22 LR model. A four-shot magazine is packaged with the .17 HMR model. Each magazine is precision fit and releases at the push of a button. Additional 5-shot (.22 LR), 10-shot (.22 LR) and 4-shot (.17 HMR) accessory magazines are also available. Measuring 40 7/8 inches in overall length, the Mark XXII has a 23-inch, #1 contour barrel. Rifling: 1-16" (.22 LR), 1-9" (.17 HMR). Length of pull: 13 5/8 inches. Drop at comb, 3/4-inch; drop at heel, 1 1/8-inch. Rifle weight is 6 1/2 pounds. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $899 for the .22 LR model, and $949 for the .17 HMR model.
